The Shuqaiq 3 desalination plant, situated on the Red Sea coast in Saudi Arabia, is set to become one of the world’s largest reverse osmosis desalination facilities, boasting an impressive daily production capacity of 450,000 cubic meters. Currently in construction, this pivotal project, awarded the “Utilities Project of the Year” in September 2019 at the Middle East Energy Awards in Dubai, UAE, is a cornerstone in the region’s infrastructure development. Operating under a 25-year Build-Own-Operate (BOO) contract model, the plant aims to secure a drinking water supply for over 1.8 million citizens, simultaneously contributing to the nation’s economic and industrial progress. Anticipated for completion in the fourth quarter of 2021, Shuqaiq 3 integrates cutting-edge inverse osmosis technology and incorporates a solar photovoltaic facility to enhance energy efficiency. As a part of its social initiatives, the project consortium will provide academic and practical training to local residents, fostering the growth of water industry professionals. This initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader plan to modernize and transform its water industry, adhering to international standards of quality and efficiency. Located in Al Shuqaiq, Saudi Arabia, with a flow capacity of 450,000 m3 per day, and catering to a population of 2 million inhabitants, Shuqaiq 3 is poised to play a pivotal role in the nation’s efforts to revamp and modernize its water production facilities.
